Top 20 Herbs and Their Uses

Here are some herbs that can be used for tea, culinary purposes, pots or for decorative purposes.

LADY & MANTLE (Alchemilla mollis) - This beautiful plant looks very beautiful growing in the garden and is a durable fruit that can be propagated by spring or fall. These flowers can be preserved by air drying or glycerin. They are especially popular in fresh or dried flowers or flowers. A small spray of flowers can be pressed for flower work. The leaves, when applied to the skin, make a great skin tonic after it has been sown and cooled in the refrigerator. Alternatively, toilet the entire plant and drink it as medicinal tea to help relieve diarrhea or menopausal symptoms.

WORMWOOD (Artemisia absinthium) or SOUTHERNWOOD (Artemisia abrotanum) - Both of these plants are easy to grow and can be spread from cuttings in early fall. The silvery leaves are very attractive in the garden and can also be used in fresh flower arrangements or pressed or dried flower arrangements. Using herbs in pot-pourris or in anti-butterfly sachets is very popular. The leaves, when dry, can be used for this purpose.

RUE (Ruta graveolens) - Durable green forests; spread by divisions in the spring or from cuttings in early fall. For decorative purposes, dry the seed head. The leaves can be pressed or polished. Rue looks very attractive in the park and is used for fresh tussie-mussies. It can also be used in small quantities for cooking and works well in anti-butterfly sachets.

COTTON LAVENDER (Santolina chamaecyparissus) - Another evergreen shrub that will give silver to the border of the park. Travel from cuttings through summer and early fall.
One very beautiful shrub is the "Lemon Queen". From the usual yellow to most other varieties, it has a cream-colored flower. Another variation that should be mentioned is Santolina neapolitana, because it is a very attractive foliage. These herbs can be used fresh, dried or pressed for decorative purposes and also used in pots and anti-butterflies.

FEVERFEW (Chrysanthemum parthenium) - A durable material that will reproduce itself in depth or cut and partitioning. One particular variety that will give a bright color to any "Aureum" garden. The plant has bright lime-green leaves and when dried, it can be used in pots-pourris. The leaves can be served for tea and can help migraine sufferers.

HOP (Humulus lupulus) - This is a durable and beautiful climbing plant when fencing, garden arbor or any other form. Flowers and leaves are used in counting, garlands or swags and female flowers to make beer. Hop cushions are also considered to help with sleep. It also says that tea made from the absorption of flowers and some honey has a calming effect and helps with the hang.

HEATHER (Calluna vulgaris) - Durable rugs require very little maintenance and are very beautiful in the garden when they are in flower. Heather can be dried but is best kept in glycerin. Useful in dry decorative or pot-pour arrangements. Young heather tips can be incorporated for herbal tea and may help with skin or skin problems.

CLOVE PINK (Dianthus caryophyllus) - Soon but will be short lived with intense frosts. Slows down from the trunks taken in the spring. Although there are many other types,
"Doris" has a wonderful perfume. Keep flowers in silica gel for decoration or pot-pourris or dry air for arrangement. These flowers are great for making floral vinegar, jam or wine and can be served in wine as a nerve tonic.

LAVENDER (Lavandula angustifolia) - A durable shrub that is a must for every garden and is best for flowering. Easily spread from stem sections in spring or autumn. There are many types to choose from. "Hidcote" is a dark purple variety with "Alba" in white. Another variant, which has an attractive shape, is French lavender (Lavandula stoecbas). Lavender has many uses. For example, in the kitchen for lavender vinegar, oil and mustard, in pot-pourris and sachets. Oil is an excellent antidote for insect bites, stings and burns. Lavender is a very popular aromatic herb. Add some dots to your shower and have a relaxing experience.

BORAGE (Borago officinalis) - Perennial fruits are durable but may need to grow new crops every year. You can press the flowers but the leaves do not dry well. Arrange the flowers to decorate the cakes and try mixing the leaves in soft cheese or for decorating a meal.

MINT (Mentha) - There are various types of mint, all of which are hardy. They are spread from the root or section and will take over your garden. It is recommended that they be planted in pots or bags that have sunk into the ground to cover their roots. The most popular mint in the kitchen is for jam and sauce as a accompaniment for a toast. Cooking herbs are used for flavoring potatoes, carrots and nuts. Tea made from mint has a very relaxing effect and can be used to help reduce flu. Use as a hair rinse to rest the scalp or in the pill. The most common mints are peppermint, spearmint, applemint, pennyroyal and lemon scent. All can be used in herbal decoration.

ROSEMARY (Rosmarinus officinalis) - Long-lasting evergreen green that loves sunny places and can be spread from cuttings. It is also best for use in cooking especially with goat, pork or vegetables. Used in a pot or poured in tea to aid in digestion or use in the bath for a refreshing effect. Rosemary oil, when diluted, can be used as a final rinse for hair. Rosemary turns gray when glycerin.

COSTMARI or ALECOST (Chrysanthemum balsamita) - Long lasting sun-loving. Divide in spring or fall. It was once used in beer but now it is more popular for use in seasoning vegetables, chicken or wild game. Used in pot-pourris, it is an insect repellent and will add fragrance to your water or linen.

THYME (Thymus) - A evergreen shrub native to cuttings or seeds. Use it in a fresh place for their aroma or for cooking purposes. It is also used as a soothing tea for chest pain or as a sleep aid. When dry, it can be used in pots-pourris, as a facial scrub for clear skin, in stock, marinades and stuffing.

ROSE (Rosa) - Hardy bamboo is purchased as a plant or planted from fall in the fall. There are many beautiful colors and variations and must-haves for every garden. Use in fresh or dried arrangements or pots. Petals can be used in salads or crystals for decoration. Hips are used in tea, wine, chronicles and jams or tonics called "Rosewater" which helps dry skin and dry skin.

LEMON VERBENA (Aloysia triphylla) - Tall shrubs but frosts will kill them in winter if not covered in greenhouses. Take a dry cut in the spring. Add dried leaves to the pourris pot or to add fragrance to the dresser drawer. Great in tea, hot or ice, and bowls. Soak the pad in the tea and place it on the eyes to reduce swelling. Bronze-type flowers can be chewing on for sweeteners and seeds and the leaves can be used as a face steam to cleanse the skin deeply. Tea helps digestion and leaves can be chopped and sprinkled on vegetables and fish.

BASIL (Ocimum basilicum) - An annual, non-herb easy to grow and does not respond to overwatering. Most are grown in pots indoors or greenhouses, though, I have personally had the good fortune of growing in my southern and sunny herb garden in my home. Purple varieties are very beautiful in the garden and can be used as part of flowers or dried herbs. When used as a tea, it has antiseptic properties to help relieve nausea and is well known for its use in tomato and garlic dishes. It also makes for a very refreshing bath.

CAMOMILE (Chamaemelum nobile) - A durable green evergreen dispersed from the cuttings or by divisions. A variety of flore-plenary flowers, when dried, are used in decoration. Flowers and leaves are used for pot-pourris and when grown can be used as a hair softener. Chamomile tea is a very good tonic and is said to prevent anxiety and nightmares. Place tea bags on the eyes to reduce swelling and alleviate shadows.

APPLICABLE GREENIUMS (Pelargonium) - Evergreen perennials that must be moved indoors or turned into greenhouses during winter. Take a cut and put it in the sand. Different types and aromas include lime, orange, rose and peppermint and all are used well in pots. They can also be used for culinary purposes such as jelly, sorbet and syrup. Soak up the leaves and enter the bath bag for an aromatic bath.
