First, always listen to the advice given to you by your tattoo artist for your post-treatment. Be sure to ask about the back-up procedure after the entire healing process for your tattoo.
Wraps
Usually a tattoo artist will apply some ointment and wrap the tattoo area before you leave the living room, to help prevent tattoo infections. Infections can be caused by dirty hands, dirty clothing and any air bacteria allowed to reach the raw area. There are two trends of thinking between tattoo artists when packing tattoos.
- Artists use gauze that allows the tattoo to breathe which is essential to the healing process. However, like fresh tattoos that cry blood and lymph fluid, this can absorb through the gauze and into your clothing. Also sometimes the gauze is stuck to the tattoo so when you release the gauze you may need to use a wet sponge (watered down) to soften the area before removal, so no tattoo color is taken.
- Artists use a film / wrap that saves blood and fluid from seeping into your clothes and not touching the tattoo. The downside is that the tattoo needs to breathe so you only need to leave the wrap / film wrap for no more than 2 hours. If body sweat occurs under this film / wrap it will cause bacteria to develop and lead to tattoo infection.
Wash
After removing the wrap, wash and rinse the area with warm water and non-fragrant anti-bacterial or antimicrobial soap such as Provon. Just use your finger to gently clean the ointment, blood, and fluid and do not use a washer. Wash the fabric too hard for cuts and can cause ink bleeding. Pat dry the area (do not scrub) with a paper towel or clean towel.
Ointment
For 3 to 5 days, twice a day, use antibacterial healing ointments such as Bepanthen or vitamin A and D. rich in cream. Do not use Vaseline, lanolin, alcohol, calamine lotion or Neosporin, which can cause red bumps that can release ink in your tattoo. Basically use only fragrant ointment and no chemicals can harm your tattoo. When applying the ointment, only a thin layer is needed, it should leave the skin moist but not moisturized, so wait 10 minutes to allow the ointment to absorb into the skin and remove excess ointment. You want the tattoo to be moist but also to breathe to help prevent excess skin.
Clothes
Wear loose fitting clothes that will not rub with the tattoo. Tight clothing can remove layers of protective skin on the tattoo which will increase the healing time and can remove the color from the tattoo and may cause infection. New clothes should be washed before use as many new clothes have toxic chemicals in them and can also have excess dye.
Humidity
After the fifth day you need to moisturize the tattoo for approximately 2 weeks. One recommendation is to use Keri Intensive Care Cream or Vaseline. Do not replace the tattoo, as it may be attached to the tattoo upon removal and also remove the ink from the tattoo. If you need to get back up because of your work environment seek the advice of your tattoo artist.
The sun and the water
The first 3 to 4 weeks are an important time to maintain the look and longevity of your tattoo. Keep your tattoo from direct sunlight as it causes fading. It only takes about 3 minutes to get your sun tattoo because the skin is so sensitive. After the tattoo is fully healed and you are immersed in direct sunlight always apply a 30SPF sun block to ensure the tattoo does not fade. Do not "water log" your tattoo - do not swim in the salt water, swimming pool, spa, hot tub or allow your tattoo to be punctured by water in the shower.
Scabbing and Peeling
From day 3 to 10, your tattoo may rot or peel off. Apply warm flour to the veil for 5 minutes, 2-3 times a day, to soften the veil and let it fall by itself. Don't pick the veil. Just use a moisturizer to peel off the skin and not sting, leaving the lid dry. If the veil is itchy, don't choose! Look at the area to control the itch with your hand.
