I am a licensed aesthetician and half a practitioner. Waxing can be dangerous, there is a risk of infection, darkness (torn skin), burns, scarring, hygiene and hyper-pigmentation (dark or dark spots). Many practitioners do not follow or do not know many safety guidelines. As a customer, you need to make sure your practitioner keeps you safe. So ... here are some guidelines to keep yourself safe while kneeling at your local spa!
First, a list of medicines that you cannot use at all and we recommend at least three months (one year for Accutane):
* Accutane (acne medicine)
* Adapalene (acne medicine)
* Alustra (Retin A)
* Avage (See Tazorac - acne medicine)
* Avita (See Retin A)
* Differin (acne medicine)
* Isotretinoin (See Accutane)
* Renova (See Retin A)
* Retin A (Acne and anti-aging drugs)
* Tazarac (acne medicine)
* Tazarotene (See Tazorac)
* Tretinoin (See Retin A)
Having a patch test done if you are on top of this, people respond in different ways. Have a patch test performed every time you experience problems if you use this medicine.
Here are the topical remedies. If you are used to an area where you use these topical medicines, tell your esthetician. It is thin on the skin and can often cause wax complications. Check your product, often enough that you don't know you're using it.
* Other acne medications not listed above
* Bleaching for hair (used mostly for upper lip)
* Bleaching for skin pigmentation (Hydraquinone, Trilumena)
* Previous chemical disposal such as Nair
* Benzoyl Peroxide (ProActive)
* Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic)
* Oral Antibiotics
* Topical Antibiotics
* Retinol
* Salicylic acid
* Other exfoliants
General precautions:
* Avoid sunburned or irritated skin candles
* Do not light a candle the same day you are at the tanning booth
* Do not tan for at least 2 days after waxing
* Do not candle for at least 2 days before you have chemical skin or 7 days after
* Try to make appointments at least a week before or after your period, often more sensitive nowadays
* Do not peel off the day before treatment
* Do not use deodorant for at least 24 hours after wax waxing
* Do not take a hot bath or swim in the ocean for 24 hours after treatment
When using hard candles soft candles:
Hard wax (without strips of wax) is for fine areas, faces, armpits, bikini or belly. Soft candles (strip candles) are for arms and legs. This is very important, even if you are fine after refining with a soft candle. Soft wax removes your skin. That's why it can only be used in the area once. It adheres to the skin and attracts it with hair. Hard candles do not do this and therefore can be used in the area more than once. If you use striped candles in a delicate area (with thinner skin) you run the risk of darkening and bruising. These areas, such as underarms and bikinis, are usually skin-protected and are a moister environment, so when the protective coating is removed along with the remaining open wounds from the hair removal, it makes these areas ripe for infection. If your aesthetician is not using the right candles, find another one or request the use of hard candles. Excoriation is painful and can lead to infections, scars and hypo or hyperpigmentation. This is especially important in the face region because you can leave it with dark marks on your skin if you are light, or light marks on your skin if you are dark.
No love without gloves!
What matters to me is if I can scream and jump up on your screen, I will!
Waxing leaves small scars on your skin. The follicles are left open and can bleed. Even if they don't, you have crossed the blood barrier on the skin. Your aesthetic specialist should wear gloves every time, every treatment, without fail. It protects him but also protects you. With your skin exposed, you are exposed to things like staph infections, MSRAs, even Hepatitis. This has led to today's turmoil in the spa world and the high profile of the spa and OSHA itself is a glove for every treatment. Please request this request from your aesthetician at all times. Even if you watch her wash her hands, there are still bacterial spots like nails. You never know if he has something as harmless as a piece of paper that you can't see that could potentially expose you to something deadly. As a side note, demand a clean sheet on the bed each time. Many places do not change their linen. Ask for a clean towel to put under you if you are questioning the linen.
If you see them double, take a break. Don't wait.
Candle pots are kept at a good temperature, somewhere or just above body temperature. This creates a bacterial cooking environment. If your esthetician doubles, that means he uses the stick to apply the candle and then dips it back into the pot again, away. You expose yourself to countless foreign blood and then spread to your skin. Worse yet, there is a possibility that the application will overlap slightly so that the candle is spread out into small open wounds. There is no such thing as a candle that won't store bacteria. It doesn't exist. This is one of the most dangerous practices. Imagine that the candle used on your lips is used to make some Brazilians. Double dipping is a very common practice and very dangerous, don't hold on to it.
If you require your practitioner to adhere to this practice, you should have a safe and enjoyable session. While you should expect your esthetician to adhere to this, as an informed user will make sure you have a safe candle, not every candle in the industry has used this guide.
