Collagen is a tissue in the body that functions like cement. It is a tissue that holds all of our cells and organs together. With that, we will be the blog mass without any shape. So collagen is important. You may have heard of collagen diseases like Lupus or the Erythematosus Lupus System (big name huh). But this is an autoimmune disease. This is where the immune system attacks collagen. But we are not talking about classifying this disease. We're talking about insufficient collagen disease!
What happens if collagen is low in the body? Is it possible to have collagen deficiency? You may not have heard of this deficiency and you may not have seen any RDA requirements for daily collagen requirements. That's because collagen is usually not important. Which means that the body produces its own collagen. But for every piece of collagen produced in the body, essential nutrients are needed. We'll get here a little later in the article.
The question you and I have today is: Is a common condition known as collagen hemorrhoids? Hmmm. I'm sure the answer to that question is Yes. Studies have proven it to be a fact.
This may sound funny to you but hemorrhoidal tissue (after surgery of course) has been analyzed for its collagen content (1). The content of hemorrhoidal tissue collagen from 31 patients who underwent hemorrhoidectomy was analyzed and compared with 20 others who had no hemorrhoids and died of natural death. This analysis clearly showed a significant lack of collagen in samples from hemorrhoids compared with those without the disease.
What is interesting about this study is the following phrase given by scientists as a conclusion: "It is still unclear whether this is due to exogenous or endogenous influences". In other words, is it caused by something outside or something inside? This clearly shows how the mind of science can sometimes be emptied under the simplest of problems.
As mentioned earlier, essential nutrients are needed to form each piece of collagen in the body. If any of these nutrients are depleted, collagen is not formed or it is formed incorrectly. It is like building a steel wall without steel that supports it. To form collagen, the body needs:
1. Vitamin C
2. Lysine amino acids
3. Zinc - an important mineral lacking in our soil and food. 4. Bioflavonoids found in citrus
5. Anthocyanidins - found in certain fruits and vegetables
As you can see from the list above, most of these nutrients are not in the standard American diet. Lysine is readily available as it is found in all high protein foods. But other essential nutrients are not consumed by the majority of americans to supply quality collagen tissue. Where can we find these nutrients?
1. Zinc can be found in pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds
2. Vitamin C is found in lemon, citrus, and all fruits and vegetables in various stages
3. Anthocyanidins are found in blueberries, pomegranates and all the berries
4. Bioflavonoids are also found in the above foods, especially citrus
