Myth 1 - Teeth whitening damages your six teeth
Not exactly right! Professional Dental Cleansing suppliers are mainly using Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide as an active ingredient in their tooth whitening gel. Hydrogen Peroxide (HO) is a bleaching agent that turns water (HO) and releases oxygen (O) molecules in the chemical reaction. Both Water and Oxygen are a common, safe component of our daily lives.
Oxygen particles penetrate the rough surface of your teeth (although they look smooth, they are microscopic rough, rods like crystalline structures) and release staining particles. I want to explain this by imagining TV commercials showing how washing clothes with oxygen removes stains from your clothes.
Hydrogen Peroxide "bleach" is not the same as a household bleach containing ammonia, or a low-acid, toothpaste-based tooth whitening product. Even our own bodies produce Hydrogen Peroxide naturally!
Acid products can remove enamel from your teeth. Look for dental whitening products using pH-balanced Hydrogen Peroxide, meaning they have no acidity or low acidity. Putting acidity into perspective, you should be aware that Orange juice daily has been shown in laboratory studies to soften (and potentially scrape) tooth enamel many times more than a professional hydrogen peroxide based tooth whitening gel can, if used correctly.
Myth 2 - Dental bleaching is unsafe
Incorrect! Cosmetic teeth whitening with Hydrogen Peroxide has been used for 100 years. Most recognized dental bodies worldwide support teeth whitening as a safe practice, when easy safety measures are followed. Any professional supplier of dental whitening products will include sufficient instructions for safe use of their products.
Safety vs Risk of tooth whitening is generally based on 2 main issues: Exposure to the gums and soft tissues of the mouth or lips, and tooth sensitivity. Both can be minimized by using professional products and minimizing the amount of bleaching gel time exposed to the gums or teeth.
As with any cosmetic procedure, there is potential risk. Thankfully with a professional teeth whitening, any experienced side effects are temporary and temporary. Like most cosmetic procedures, you may need to experience some discomfort to look better. Sometimes I call this "Pain Pain".
Myth 3 - All Gel Whitening is the same
Incorrect! Of the top two professional gel options, there are Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide. Both produce the same active ingredient as Hydrogen Peroxide, but Carbamide Peroxide works slowly on the teeth and is recommended for use only with Lightening Light (I'll talk about that later) or for overnight use. Carbamide Peroxide concentration contains about one third of the active ingredient, Hydrogen Peroxide. For example, 35% Carbamide Peroxide is approximately equal to 12% Hydrogen Peroxide.
Because Hydrogen Peroxide is an unstable chemical that reacts quickly, it is more expensive to produce. Many vendors only offer Carbamide Peroxide-based products as a result. Stable Hydrogen Peroxide, while the most difficult and expensive to produce, responds immediately to tooth contact and is best suited for short-term tooth whitening treatment without light acceleration.
Myth 4 - Dental Whitening Accelerator does not work
Not exactly right! Except in some cases. There are businesses that sell only dental whitening, and some Dentists, who say that LED Lights and other accelerators are just gimmicky and inefficient.
There are many studies that show that the use of professional accelerator light accelerates the oxidation (oxygen release and chemical bleaching reaction) of the tooth whitening gel. This is especially true with Carbamide Peroxide-based whitening gels that respond more slowly than chemicals.
Ask yourself, how many Cosmetic Dentistry and Dentistry businesses offer "in-office", "chairside", "instant whitening" or "Power Whitening" treatments? Many of them! Now why do they offer this treatment if the accelerator lamp does not work? From my own professional experience, there is no doubt that the professional quality of Blue LED Lighting Lights enables faster tooth whitening when using Carbamide Peroxide gel. In our own study and observations that have worked with thousands of customers and compared results with the same gel, over the same time period, with and without LED Accelerator Lights, we believe there is a significant improvement in light under these conditions.
However, not all Lighter Lighting is the same. Some Doctors use old technology lamps like Plasma, UV and other technologies. This technology works on the spectrum of light known to cause heating or burning of skin tissues and heating the surface of the teeth to release oxygen in the gel, unfortunately it can also cause UV damage to the mouth, gums and lips. There are also mini handheld LED Lights you see on Commercial TVs - these are just toys and don't have enough power to have any effect.
Another case where the accelerator light is not working properly is if the provider uses a mouth tray to hold the gel on the tooth, and the color is, is a "Silicone Scan", or a Pre-filled Foam Tray. This type of counter-tray does not allow the frequency of light to pass through and there is no accelerated bleaching effect.
Professional and modern dental whitening lamps use LED light in the blue light spectrum, at specific frequencies that stimulate the release of oxygen from chemicals, and accelerate the process of whitening. They are often known as "Cool LEDs" or "cool" light accelerations because they do not heat the teeth or surrounding tissues. As a result, they are very safe, and the technology is FDA Apparoved.
Myth 5 - You should go to the Dentist for a professional bleaching decision
Incorrect! Today, you can buy in Australia, a professional strength toothbrush product that you can use at home or as a service of light and professional accelerator - and not just from Dentists.
Dentists are exclusively allowed to use VERY strong bleaching gel, over 16% Hydrogen Peroxide, and up to 35% Hydrogen Peroxide. At the strength of this gel whitening, the real risk is tooth sensitivity and gum trauma. That's why Doctors use special gums they use for your gums before applying a strong gel. Dentists will usually get better whitening results in the same amount of time as non-dental treatment, but there are costs to consider, both financially and with increased dental sensitivity when using the only stronger Dentist.
For many years dentists have been in the cosmetic dentistry market monopolizing because professional dental whitening technology is too expensive for others. Today, the price and availability of professional dental whitening products means you have more choices and options.
Myth 6 - Dental Whitening from anywhere other than the United States, Australia or the UK is unsafe
Incorrect! First and foremost, in this modern world, you may not know it but products made by good American or Australian brands are likely to be manufactured in China. This is true of all types of products and technologies around the world, as the economy is simple.
There are many brands of dental whitening products on the market. You don't have to worry about it being made, because it doesn't make a difference. Chemically active, Hydrogen Peroxide is the same worldwide. Because Hydrogen Peroxide is also used as a disinfectant, bacteria cannot live in these chemicals and it will always be safe (ie germs and bacteria free) to put Hydrogen Peroxide-based gels into your mouth no matter how they are made or how they are made.
If the Hydrogen Peroxide gel has passed its use by the expiration date or chemical, you will know right away, as the gel turns white in milk indicating that it has oxidized and can no longer effectively whiten your teeth, causing no harm.
Myth 7 - You need a customized Mouthguard tray for the best whitening results
Incorrect! While doctors offer custom mouth trays that cost a lot of money, there are also many home cleaning tools that provide thermoshrinking stews that will work well. Fully customized trays may be a bit more comfortable to use, but they are necessary, because generally teeth whitening Dentists at home require that you have a tray in your mouth for a long period of time, for several weeks of use. There are non-dentist products that only require short term use, so it doesn't matter if the mouth is uncomfortable.
Another problem with over-brushing is that the gap between the teeth and the surface of the mouth is so small, that only the thinner whitening layer can be adjusted. The problem with this is less chemicals = less whitening results, so you need to use mouth and gel more often, over a longer period of time to get good results.
Myth 8 - All teeth are the same result and whitening must be like a "Hollywood" smile
Unfortunately, some people have unrealistic expectations and can be disappointed with their teeth whitening results. This is not because professional teeth whitening products do not work, because they are WORKING WORK. This is because they do not understand that each person's teeth are unique in their mineral composition, which means that whitening teeth will produce different results for each person. If your teeth are genetically more yellow than others, your decision will not be white, no matter what product you use, how many times you try to whiten your teeth, or what the strength of the gel is. And some people have deep doses of antibiotics, tetracycline and others that cannot be easily removed and cannot be completely removed. Also, there are people with gray or blue teeth whose Hydrogen Peroxide bleaching does not work as well as yellow or brown.
People see Hollywood Stars on TV and in Movies and believe they can get their teeth born to look like movie stars. Unfortunately, that's not possible. Dental Chemistry has its effectiveness and will not produce the pure white (for most people) you see in Movie Stars. Does that mean that movie stars are only genetically lucky? No, this means movie stars often pay thousands of dollars for Veneers Porcelain to straighten their teeth and make them pure white. Of course, you have this option too, if you have the money, but whitening teeth with Hydrogen Peroxide generally makes a clear difference in whitening and natural tooth brightness, at a lower cost than Veneers.
Myth 9 - If I have Caps, Crowns, Veneers or Dentures, I can't brush my teeth
Incorrect! While Hydrogen Peroxide only cuts natural teeth, it also cleans all surfaces, including man-made surfaces, hats, veneers and dentures. Some dentists say that hydrogen peroxide can weaken the bond of some of these ingredients, or attack metal components, but you should check with your dentist on a specific case before cleaning your natural teeth if you are worried.
It is always best to whiten your natural teeth first if you will get any hat, crown etc. installed. This is because the dentist can then match the color of the artificial material to your now whiter, natural teeth, giving the whole white smile.
Common Teeth Whitening Questions and Answers:
Does Whitening Perfume Work?
The problem here is that there is not enough chemical concentration, and it doesn't concentrate on your teeth long enough to make AFTER the obvious difference to your teeth whitening. The only real "whiteness" if you can call it that, created by toothpaste is actually an excessive amount of toothbrush or paste on your tooth enamel. This scratches DOES with tooth enamel and also removes large lumps of coloring material on the surface of the teeth, but not small particles of color that make the teeth appear more yellow. This is the same thing as "Toothbrush" which only acts as a fine sandpaper to remove tooth enamel during brushing and will result in increased tooth sensitivity with prolonged use of tooth enamel.
As is the case with Risk vs Reward, although there are significant damages caused by six teeth from cleaning teeth over time, this balance is better than the result of not cleaning your teeth.
Don't be fooled by the expensive "whitening toothpaste" - they don't make a significant difference to the whiteness of your teeth, they melt enamel from your teeth and you better spend your money on something that doesn't work.
Who's Right for Teeth Whitening?
The general rules recommended for determining the right person for a toothbrush are:
- Over 16 (due to the potential for tooth development before this age, parental consent may be required)
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding (this is an additional safety measure to protect your baby, although you may not be able to swallow enough Hydrogen Peroxide from regular dental whitening treatments to harm your baby)
- There is no known allergy to hydrogen peroxide. If you have ever experienced skin irritation when destroying your hair with Hydrogen Peroxide, you may be allergic. But if you do not know you are allergic, it will become clear within the first few minutes of the whitening treatment, and you can only stop the treatment. Any side effects, no matter how much discomfort will disappear in a few days without permanent damage.
In addition to this, tooth whitening is not recommended for dental patients, people with gum disease, open cavities, patches, recent oral surgery, or other dental conditions. If in doubt, I recommend that you visit your dentist before using a professional strength teeth whitening product.
People who have gray or blue color for their natural teeth may also not be able to provide benefits such as whitening teeth using Hydrogen Peroxide, as a yellow or brown person.
If you have Gingivitis or Periodontal disease, any Hydrogen Peroxide bleaching on your gum line will be painful and may result in slight bleeding in the gum line. As a result, I do not recommend whitening teeth until this issue is controlled by your Dentist. What is interesting, however, is that reports show that Hydrogen Peroxide can kill the bacteria that cause Gingivitis, possibly preventing further damage.
What are the Dangers of Teeth Whitening?
Whitening treatment is generally safe, however, some of the potential complications of this treatment include:
GUM USE: The whitening gel in contact with the gum tissue during treatment may cause inflammation and / or whitening or whitening of the gums, gum line or inside the lips. This is due to accidental exposure of the small area of the tissue to the bleaching gel. Inflammation and / or bleaching of the gums is temporary, which means they are resistant, and any changes in the color of the gum tissue will recur within two hours, usually within 10-30 minutes. People with a history of oral ulcers may experience temporary mouth ulcers that usually disappear within a few days after treatment.
TOOTH SENSITIVITY: Although it is common for Office Doctors to use a very strong bleaching gel, some people may experience tooth decay for a period of time after bleaching treatment. People with existing sensitivities, new teeth cracking, micro cracks, open holes, leaky patches, or other dental conditions that may cause sensitivity may find that the condition improves or improves tooth sensitivity after cosmetic tooth whitening treatment.
SPOTS OR STREAKS: Some people may experience spots or white spots on their teeth because of natural calcium deposits on the teeth. This usually decreases within 24 hours.
RELAPSE: After cosmetic teeth whitening treatment, it is natural for the tooth color to regress for a long time. This is natural and should be very gradual, but it can be accelerated by exposing your teeth to a variety of retention agents, such as coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine, and more. You should not eat or drink anything except water for the first 60 minutes after the whitening treatment, and avoid any dyeing agents 24 hours after (eat and drink foods that are white or clear at this time). Hydrogen Peroxide based dental whitening products are not intended to be permanent, and can last up to 2 years when using professional strength treatments. Secondary, repeat, or touch treatment may be needed to achieve or maintain the color you want for your teeth.
How do I achieve the best teeth whitening results?
Before answering this question, you should consider the results of a single tooth whitening, in response to the potential side effects of a single treatment. The best answer is balance! The balance of decisions has potential for potential side effects. The highest concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide produces the best results in a short time, but also has the potential for side effects. My suggestion is the middle - not the strongest, and not the weakest to achieve a happy balance of decisions and risks.
Before you do a professional teeth whitening treatment, make sure your teeth are professionally cleaned. At least in the smile area, the upper and lower front teeth 8-10. ALSO, teeth are so opaque that whitening your skin is essential to the overall whitening results you will achieve. Dental Cleaning removes any excess material that is stuck outside your teeth and allows Hydrogen Peroxide to work properly on your natural teeth whitening.
Use professional strength whitening gel. Many Pharmacies, TV Ads and Internet companies promote dental whitening products using 3% or 6% hydrogen peroxide. This only works well on teeth whitening, and any effect they take LONG time to achieve. The comparative cost difference is not so great between these low-end and professional strength products, but the time and effort required. I recommend 12% Hydrogen Peroxide if available in your area, unless you are using a whitening treatment with a professional accelerator that can use 35% Carbamide Peroxide. Of course the power whitening treatment of Dentists generally uses a gel greater than 12%, but beware of potential side effects.
Remember, if your teeth are not as white as you want after the first treatment, you can always take the time to monitor your gums and teeth for any side effects, and then take additional treatment. Providing that the product you use is not too expensive, this is the best and safest way to achieve optimal teeth whitening.
How long is the Teeth Whitening last?
It depends on the product you use to whiten your teeth, and your lifestyle.
If you are a smoker, or regularly drink red wine or use other colored substances, your white teeth will last longer.
There is no absolute answer to this question, but in general, if you use a professional teeth whitening product for full treatment as recommended, you may be able to maintain a white tooth for up to 2 years if you are aware of what you eat and drink, and maintain your teeth and proper oral health.
Most people are not saints and lead lives where they enjoy red wine or curry. That's fine, but if you want to keep your teeth, you should brush them 60 minutes after you eat a meal or drink. Research suggests that you should not brush as soon as you eat because the acid formed in your mouth when eating makes tooth enamel soft and brushing teeth can be harmful at this time.
I also recommend the use of Teeth Whitening Pens. They apply a thin layer of hydrogen peroxide to the teeth, at any time or place, and will emit any coloring near the surface of the tooth (if the concentration is strong enough). Dehydration The active ingredient Pens only work for 30 to 60 seconds on the teeth as saliva cleanses, so choose Pen Whitening which uses Hydrogen Peroxide (not Carbamide) and professional strength gel. Pens bleaching is generally not suitable for deepening effects.
I have dental problems, can I still clean my teeth?
Yes, and you have several options. You can use desensitizing toothpaste for about 1 month before whitening your teeth and if the sensitivity is reduced, you can use any product. But be aware that your sensitivity may increase during or after treatment, so I recommend choosing a mid-strength whitening gel where you can remove it quickly if discomfort is unbearable.
Another option is low strength whitening gel. This will work for longer, but sometimes also improves sensitivity because of the amount of time it takes for the teeth to get good results.
Perhaps the best option, in my opinion, is Pen Teeth Whitening with at least 12% Hydrogen Peroxide concentration. Because you can paint a gel on a particular tooth and because the gel is cleaned by saliva in less than a minute, this can produce the best results, with the least discomfort.
What do I need to do after I brush my teeth?
- Rinse gel from teeth and mouth without swallowing.
- Brush your teeth within 60 minutes by using toothpaste containing Fluoride to help whiten your teeth
- Do not eat or drink colored foods, or smoke for at least 60 minutes
- If you have tooth sensitivity, use a desensitizing toothpaste
- If you are having a hard time in your gums, buy from Pharmacy a set up designed to soothe your gums. This will help to prevent mouth ulcers (if you are exposed) and reduce the discomfort and duration of any potential gum irritation.
Simple rules for the best Teeth Whitening results
Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration (Strength) + Dental Time (Time) = Result (Effectiveness)
When factoring in Time, you should also consider the timing:
- More effort, which means you cannot complete treatment
- More troublesome
- The active ingredient is sufficient to react chemically during that time. That is, just leaving any whitening gel on your teeth for 24 hours in a row will not help as Hydrogen Peroxide is usually fully reacted and expended within 20 minutes.
- Longer oral exposure to gums. Oral irritation can often lead to irritation of the gums
- Longer exposure of gel to the gums. Again, the risk of gum irritation.
- Remember, there is a limit to the whiteness that can be achieved with a natural tooth and this will vary with the genetics of your teeth, your lifestyle and the state of your teeth at the time of whitening.
