As someone who has traveled to several countries throughout Asia, I can see the first Asian skin whitening.
In many Asian countries, light skin is very valuable.
Having lighter skin is considered more attractive, especially in Southeast Asian countries.
In the bright blacks of North and East Asia, having white skin is a clear sign of glamor and wealth.
The Influence of Root Culture
Asian skin whitening has deep cultural roots for centuries.
Li Yanbing, vice-secretary of the All-China Federation of Beauty and Cosmetics Council of the All-China Federation of Industry and Trade, gave an interview with China Daily in 2012 that showed little understanding of how deep fans are.
He mentions that skin whitening in modern China goes back to ancient times. And he continues to quote ancient Chinese words that have passed through the ages; "One white covers one hundred disadvantages."
Japan has the same word; "White skin covers seven blemishes. This means that a woman with bright skin is beautiful even though her features are not attractive.
Many Asians associate with darker skin by working in a field under the sun or some other work called dung. Lighter skin on the other hand is associated with higher status and cultural production.
The influence of Western media in Asia has also played a major role in conveying the idea that lighter skin is something of value. Therefore, there is a growing demand for skin digestive treatments.
And it's not just the glowing cream that's on demand. The whole body moisturizing cream has also surged in popularity.
Asian Skin Whitening - The prestigious Market
The Asian whitening industry is said to be worth more than US $ 13 billion. Japan represents the world's largest market while China (around US $ 3 billion) and India (around US $ 400 million) drive significant growth in the industry.
The Indian obsession with light skin has seen the market brighten its skin with double digit growth every year. Its market accounts for almost 50% of the entire skin care market.
Elsewhere in Asia, a survey conducted by UK-based market research firm Synovate found that 40% of women in Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan use skin whitening lotions.
Effective Herbal-Based Skin Shaving Cream for Asian Skin
So what's wrong with wanting a lighter skin? To each / her own. However, the skin digestive industry is not without its critics.
Critics accuse the stereotypical industry of race and social class. They also argue that the industry promotes a view of beauty that is inseparable and inadequate to educate the public about the potential side effects of bleaching.
And the potential side effects are very real. The Japanese Kanebo brand was recently revisited when users experienced a white break in their skin.
Side effects or not, in India, the search for lighter skin has grown in the direction that many critics consider it gross. Nowadays, there is a vaginal bleaching product called Clean And Intense Dry.
Trading for this product shows couples sitting in their home; the husband was reading the newspaper while his wife was talking to him because, obviously, the man ignored her because the private part was dark.
Fortunately, she got a hold of Clean and Dry, which made her a happier couple. Her husband is happy again. Whew! Divorce is no longer on the card. Find out why he married her in the first place.
Regardless, the ad's tagline reads: "Women's lives will be fresher, cleaner and more important, more just and more intimate."
People in India who favor skin may claim that critics are hypocritical when it comes to industry.
Alyque Padasee, director of Clean and Dry ads says, "Lipstick is used to make your lips red, justice is used to make you fair - so what's the problem?"
Despite the harmful arguments, the centuries-old belief that 'better is better' showing some signs of deterioration.
From Old to New
In Asia in particular, there are many traditional treatments used to lighten the skin.
In China, rich women eat crushed pearls. In Korea during the Koryo dynasty, rich family children used peach blossoms to wash their faces. In India, women bathe in turmeric.
Nowadays, cosmetics that prevent melanin production are the most popular treatments.
There are many ingredients available in the treatment. Arbutin, koic acid and Vitamin C derivatives can be found in many of these treatments.
Many treatments now claim to not only make your skin brighter but also claim to moisturize the skin and fight aging.
