Most treatments designed to remove spots on the hands contain a substance called hydroquinone. Not to be confused with ubiquinone, which is another name for Q10 antioxidant coenzyme, hydroquinone can cause cancer.
In some countries, the use of hydroquinone in skin whitening has been banned, due to the risk of cancer. Because you may not worry about cancer, there are other possible side effects. It can cause hyper pigmentation or darkening, rather than lightening the skin.
So why use something that could be dangerous and do more harm than good? People continue to use hydroquinone creams because they "are" the most effective thing on the market.
Hydroquinone inhibits melanin production. It is not a bleaching agent like mercury-containing substance. You also need to pay attention to them. They are not banned, because they have not been proven safe. Therefore, they are still present in many creams and lotions. Therefore, most doctors find that hydroquinone is safer than bleaching agents such as mercury.
