Quack Cures For Baldness

American humorist Will Rogers once said that "the only thing that can stop hair falling is the floor." Despite her advice, many people with hair loss continue to be misled by products claiming to grow hair. Americans spend more than $ 100 million annually on fake bald remedies.

Hair growth schemes have existed since the dawn of time. Some of the Queen of Egypt, the mother of King Theta, may have been the first recipients of cervical disease in 3400 BC. "Healing" is a mix of toes, push-ups, and donkey nails.

In Britain, men are advised not to cut their hair during the full moon to avoid baldness. If that doesn't work, they are told to apply large amounts of goat's hair to the bald horn.

Nowadays, quacks have become more sophisticated in their approach to balding. In Britain, a pharmaceutical company came out with a shampoo containing hydrolysed quills in an attempt to capture the growing anti-balancing market. Unfortunately, this product is less effective than the one used by Queen Ses. Let's look at some of them.

Aloe Vera is often referred to as a hairdresser. It is said that this plant juice can stimulate hair growth when applied to the scalp. However, there is no reason for it to work mainly because the juice is 99.5 percent water.

Lanolin is another name in the long list of dubious hairdressers. This substance is derived from the gland oil and is used in some hair conditioners and shampoos. But there is no scientific evidence that it can stop hair loss. However, it can cause allergic reactions in some people, according to Ruth Winter, an award-winning science writer in the "Cosmetics Consumers Dictionary".

Lack of biotin or vitamin H causes hair loss in mice and humans. However, hair care experts do not advise bald people to take supplements. This is because biotin deficiency is extremely rare in humans and this only applies to those who live raw egg white.

The latter contains a substance known as avidin that prevents biotin from being absorbed in the body. Because biotin is made in our own gastrointestinal tract and healthy people can easily get it from various foods, there is no need to waste money on supplements. Bald men who have no biotin deficiency should not take biotin either.

Herbal lovers will probably find burdock sooner in their quest to cure baldness. Although it was promoted to the latter, users were likely to experience adverse reactions such as hallucinations and dilated pupils. Some products like burdock tea can also be contaminated with atropine that will not make your hair grow but will surely kill you.

Since the 1940s, inositol or myo-inositol has been advertised as a hairdresser. This is true of mice but not of humans.

Other hair growers banned by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) include amino acids, amino-benzoic acids, ascorbic acid, all B vitamins, dexpanthenol, estradiol, jojoba oil, urea and germ oil.

The American Medical Association (AMA) says there are no preparations, devices or methods that can cure or prevent baldness. Nothing applied to the scalp will cause hair to grow as it is a dead structure and cannot be "fed" externally. Like Kurt Butler of the Hawaii Quackery Action Council and Dr. Lynn Rayner from the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii, in their book The Best Medicine:

"Recovery of baldness, both taken internally and those applied to the scalp are scams, despite all the sophisticated testimonials and advertisements. No lotions, creams, hormones, vitamins, lamps, massages, medications, or any other product or procedure can cure baldness, usually caused by hormonal and hereditary changes. True, there are some prescription drugs and hormones that promote hair growth in some cases, but they are dangerous, and the risks of their use are generally far greater. however, this does not apply to treatments offered by postal firms and bald clinics, which offer only cleansers, cosmetics and cosmetics.
