Is There a Way to Clean Yellowed Nose Pads on Old Prescription Glasses?

Your prescription glasses may look as good as the day you got them, but if your nose pads have started to yellow, or even better build a green gunk underneath, they become less pleasant when people approach you. What can you do about this problem? Is there anything you can do to clean the yellow nose pad on your mirror?

Why the Nose Pad Is Yellow

The nose pad is made of clear plastic. They are always in contact with your skin, and under the skin are often sweating. Sweat, over time, causes the nose pad to turn yellow. On average, it takes about a year for the nose pad on your mirror to turn yellow, and you may want your mirror to last longer than a year, especially if you pay a lot for the designer mirror frame.

In addition, the reaction between the acidity of the sweat and the metal frame can lead to the formation of greens on the nose pad. It also contains dirt and dirt on your skin. It's ugly, and even a bit impure if you stop thinking about it.

Can It Be Cleaned?

The answer is whether the nose pad is or can be cleaned. You can't do much for the yellow nose pad. Unfortunately, when the nose pad turns yellow, it stays. However, the green gun and dirt under the nose can be cleaned.

One way to do this is to use an alcohol pad that has been wet before. Pull the alcohol pad between the nose pad and the frame, and let some alcohol leak into the nose pad. Then rinse with water.

If this does not work, use a soft brush, preferably child-sized, and brush the nose pad. You can also remove it if you want to get it completely clean, but be sure to keep a tab carefully on the screw if you do, since it is small.

Some people wear glasses claiming to soak them for an hour in soapy water and then rinse them out with a gun built under the nose pad. Again, this won't help with the yellow plastic, but if you've built it, it should be tried.

Consider Alternatives

If you have a yellow nose pad, you have another alternative. Replacing the nose pad is actually quite reasonable. You can take a nose pad repair kit at your local drugstore or ophthalmologist, but make sure you have your glass with you, as there are many types available and you will need the right one.

To make a replacement, start by placing your supplies in a light colored towel. This will keep small pieces from the sliding table. Then, use the gold screwdriver to remove the old pad. Once they are turned off, use an alcohol-soaked pad to clean the frame near where they connect to the nose pad. You want all the residues to be removed before you put a new pad.

Once the glasses are clean, attach the new pad with the screwdriver. Do it gently, as it is very easy to damage these delicate pieces. If you feel resilient when you try to minimize the new screws, take it out and start over.

When done, place some clear nail paint or white glue on the screw head. This way they will not be missed, but you can remove them with your screwdriver if you need to later. Do not use strong glue, as this will make it difficult to get rid of the nose pad when it is also yellow. When you're done, you'll have glasses that look like they did the day you bought them, and you'll pay a bit to see the changes.
