Summer is approaching and it's the season for good weather, hind legs, barbeques and mosquito bites! Mosquito bites can make good weather unbearable and scars are often left worse. Many of us have ignored advice that doesn't bite mosquito bites (what else can you do for hives?) And we have mosquito bite scars to prove it.
This article will help give you tips on how to deal with insect bites to reduce the risk of scars and will help you find products that will fade out old mosquito bites that have been bothering you for years.
To help reduce the chance of getting a bite when you get a mosquito bite, follow these tips to reduce swelling and irritation.
- Rub the alligator tongue on the bite. Either fresh aloe vera directly from the inside of one of the plant-based or 100% aloe vera gel purchased stores will do. Aloe vera has a natural anti-inflammatory properties and will help soothe your biting area.
- Dry your skin and rub aspirin tablets on the bite. This helps reduce inflammation that can cause scarring.
- Don't scratch! Mosquito bites can be very itchy but try to resist the urge to scratch them as this will make the scar more likely. Use antihistamines, chamomile lotions and ice packs to soothe itching.
- One drop or two of tea tree oil used directly on the bite will soothe the itch and help the bite to heal faster.
By not scratching the insect bites and following the tips above, they will heal faster and reduce the risk of developing scars.
This information is great for new mosquito bites, but what can you do about the scar you got from last year's mosquito bite? To get rid of scars of old insects, Vitamin E oils and cocoa butter are often recommended and they work well. Vitamin E oils and cocoa butter tend to work well when used regularly on non-deep or dark scars. They will destroy a very deep scar but will not completely remove it.
There are also treatments targeted at removing scars specifically such as Mederma and Bio-Oil. Again, this works great for superficial scars but doesn't work on very deep scars. Fortunately, insect bites are so rare that this product works well as it is used regularly - usually twice daily.
