Collagen moisturizer is an oxymoron. There is nothing moisturizing about collagen, never has been, never will be. There may be other ingredients in the moisturizing product, but most of all, the only moisturizing ingredient in the product is water.
If you learn to avoid products containing non-moisturizing ingredients, you will be happier with the results. So, here are some ingredients to avoid; petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin wax, liquid paraffin, wax, hyaluronic acid, elastin and collagen. Any of these can temporarily improve the way skin feels by locking in moisture. However, most cause moisture and with the exception of bees and hyaluronic acid, they all clog the pores, increasing the likelihood of defects and ruptures.
When we realize that the number of things decreases over time, we often think that we can fix it, by increasing it. In some cases it works. For example, the skin's antioxidant levels decrease with the passage of time. We can fix this with a cream containing antioxidants formulated correctly.
Skin tends to be less moist, as we age. The amount of dissolved collagen and elastic fibers will decrease, over time. However, we cannot fix this by using collagen moisturizer. Similarly, we cannot correct hyaluronic acid levels by using it directly. There are other steps to take.
Hyaluronic levels decrease due to the enzymatic activity that breaks this glue. Wakame coconut extract has been shown to inhibit enzymatic activity. Thus, hyaluronic acid levels begin to increase in younger people.
But how do we stimulate the production of elastic fibers or increase the solubility of older skin-less collagen? How do we improve hydration? There are several nutrients and plant extracts that have proven effective for this purpose, but collagen moisturizers are not available.
Let start with avocado extract. It provides Vitamins A and D. Vitamin deficiency either causes excessive dryness. It provides vitamin E, an effective antioxidant known to prevent age spots. It provides essential fatty acids that are very similar to skin sebum, a natural lubricant. Recently, there has been a significant increase in the amount of collagen dissolved in the skin.
A recent study showed that coenzyme Q10, when used topically gives rise to sun-damaged skin. That's not surprising. Coenzyme Q10 is rapidly depleted when the skin is exposed to UV radiation from the sun. After six weeks of use, Coq10 has been shown to reduce wrinkles and improve hydration by 37%. That makes it an effective moisturizer.
Instead of buying collagen moisturizers, find one that contains keratin. Bioactive keratin has been shown in clinical studies to increase the production of new cells and fibers, increase its firmness, moisture content as well as its ability to maintain moisture.
If you do a little research, you will find that collagen moisturizers have never been proven to do anything. Don't waste your time or money on this kind of product. Better solutions are available.
