What's today's obsession with removing hair? I mean, what about painting on thick eyebrows, painful knee extensions, and obviously looking fake hair?
This baby boomer must feel my age because I didn't get it.
Yes, I shaved my legs, but I didn't realize that women were too busy with hair lately. Are we women who are obsessed with marketers?
According to the book, painted: The History of Hair Removal, more than 99 percent of American women have their hair cut.
Interestingly, Gillette introduced the first razor to women in 1915 along with the message that body hair was "unhealthy" and "unpleasant" and should therefore be removed. And they certainly have the perfect tool. The company currently earns over 9 billion dollars a year in sales.
Brazilian bikini candles were created in Manhattan by seven Brazilian sisters in the early 1990s, who now earn six million dollars a year from waxing, hair, and nail treatments.
People get a lot of time from this obsession to get rid of hair. Not only do women wax their feet and armpits, but they are suddenly becoming very important and stylish for candles elsewhere as well. I mean, OUCH! When does ripping a hot candle in a sensitive area empower you?
In fact, women spend about $ 10,000 and the equivalent of four months of their hair removal. People who candle once or twice a month will spend an average of $ 23,000 over their lifetime.
Really a woman?
Does this all seem a bit strange to you baby boomers fighting for feminist revolution with the belief that instead of pursuing physical beauty, women should focus on their intelligence, career, achievement, and make a difference? During the 60s and 70s, women felt free to make their own decisions about hairstyles and many chose to go natural. These days, women are shy and somehow dirty without bikini candles. What happen?
It doesn't take long, but isn't there anything more important to think about and do than obsess and spend time and money on getting your hair done? Back in the old days (ok, now I sound ancient) people seemed to be more focused on spiritual and family matters. They don't spend their time worrying whether their armpits are completely waxed. And many will donate $ 150 for a full body candle - to get rid of hair that grows back quickly - for a good cause.
And when we talk about this, when do women become helpless? Have you ever baby boomers noticed that women don't know how to pluck their own eyebrows, shave their own feet, or paint their own nails and nails again? In addition to all the money spent on waxing, women spend about $ 1,300 a year on sweet and spicy alone. Yes, I do occasionally spend on nail polish but not rocket science for nail polish. Wouldn't you rather travel with all that money?
We boomers don't go to hair salons for "dry blow." Instead, I quickly hold my own blow dryer like a pro and attach the prongs to a hot roller without burning my fingers to look like Farrah. If we want our hair colored, we take a bottle of Clairol at the drugstore. We also dare to have our own hair! Yes, we do look like poodles but who cares? And give me a break. At least we don't look like Dr Seuss's book with colorful rainbow hair! What's with that crazy trend?
When women are not busy trying to remove every haircut from their bodies, they cut or touch the hair extensions to look like Real Housewife or one of the Kardashians. Some women become addicted to a more permanent kind of connection that leaves their natural hair like a war zone. Did I mention the pain of tearing tape out of a more permanent kind of extension? Possible bald spot? Does this sound like a good idea to you? In fact, Jennifer Aniston admits that her famous locks have been thin out of connections.
Okay, I have to admit that in the 60's it was popular for frozen hair. For those of you who don't remember, this process involves tight rubber cover with many small holes. Small metal crocheting needles are then used to pull hair pieces through holes - one by one. Therefore, it is quite annoying and women may lose some of their hair in the process. And we baby boomers will not talk about women hairdressers somehow sleeping or teasing their hair until it looks like a bird's nest. Women brush back their hair so they look like Marge Simpson and then wear enough hairspray to cause hair problems.
But that's different. Approximately. Why don't we change the subject?
Can we talk for a minute about the eyebrows, which are called "foreheads?" These more stylish brows should look like works of art, but they just look silly to me. The dark forehead filler creates this squared but perfectly curved brow that looks anything but natural. I have nothing against eyebrows, but do the two gates on your forehead pay close attention to this, causing so much work, and so expensive? And why the candles from your eyebrows if you're just going to pull them back again? I am very confused.
Okay, maybe I shouldn't be too critical. My right picture shows a thin forehead, which may be a bit small. Actually, I can't believe I walked around so proudly, but that was the point. At least I quoted them proudly and it didn't cost me a penny!
However, this whole cultural phenomenon confuses me. But wait a minute. Maybe the armpit hair is making a comeback. There is an Instagram account called Lady Pit Hair that shows women against social beauty norms and growing their armpits and beating bright colors.
Today's beauty standards have really blown me away because they have always been the police of women's bodies, "said Taylor Carpenter, a 23-year-old hot pink hole in the yard. another to brighten her hair color: "Honestly, I like how they look. When I look around my hot pink hole, smile. "
Okay, I do like the sentiment of standing against a cloud that glides over any hairless hair, but I'm still mystical. Are green-legged fluorescents the next trend? Maybe I'm old!
