Aloe Vera, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter & Black Soap - Natural African Gifts to Give You Great Skin

Aloe tongue

Aloe vera is believed to come from North Africa and Cape Verde. Today, you can find it. Aloe Vera is very popular in the Caribbean and you will often find Grandma or Aunty to reach the crocodile tongue for any and all skin diseases! Aloe vera is an antibacterial agent and can help fight spots if applied to the skin but can also be used for burns and scars.

Aloe vera is also lightweight. So, it will not lighten your skin in some colors but it will fade the dark mark and help even your skin tone. The best thing to do is to cut the aloe vera plant stem and boil the inside to apply it directly to the skin. Not many people have aloe vera plants available so fortunately 100% aloe vera gel is available for purchase.

Shea butter

Shea butter comes from West Africa and comes from the shea tree. Perfectly pure shea butter is great for the skin. It is a great moisturizer and can also reduce stretch marks. It's a bit rich so if you have sensitive skin you may not want to apply it on your face but it's great all over. Shea butter helps fade skin and offers some natural protection from the sun. As if that wasn't enough reason to use it, it's also great for filling and preventing wrinkles!

Cocoa butter

The largest cocoa producers are Ivory Coast and Ghana in West Africa. With its beautiful choclately scent, cocoa butter is a great skin moisturizer but it also works well at night skin tone, eliminates dark marks and removes stretch marks. I'm talking about pure cocoa butter, flawless, not the cool thing you find in a bottle! Both cocoa butter and shea butter are great for smoothing the skin on the knees and elbows.

Black soap

Black soap is also from West Africa. It is made from plant leaves, palm leaves, cocoa or other leaves. The leaves are burned and then water and oil are added. Coconut oil, shea butter, palm oil or cocoa butter. This process can take up to 2 weeks and the recipe is discarded through generations. This means different regions and tribes have their own way of making black soaps. Black soap is known as Ose Dudu in Nigeria - literally, 'it's fine.' 'black soap'.

Black soap helps with acne, rash and hyperpigmentation. It is not like most drying soap and can be used all over the body.
