The story of how browns are becoming popular and sought after is very interesting and relatively recent.
Take out your history book and you will realize that fair skin (the better it is!) Has always been a holy worship for women all over the world. As far as ancient Egypt was concerned, women used mercury and restored their skin, with unwanted side effects. In Elizabethan and Victorian England, snow white is still a measure of beauty ("Mirror on the wall, who's the prettiest?") And wealth - only rich people can stay home and drink tea, while workers are plundered all day in farm.
By the 20th century, things had changed. Most of the working class left the fields to work for hours in the mills without ever seeing the light of day. Being able to sunbathe is now a luxury that can only be done well. Even better, rich people can also show their wealth to their troubled skin by taking a vacation in the south to escape the cold, moonless months.
Rapid sunbathing is a health concern. It is considered a new (free!) Treatment for various diseases from Tuberculosis, eczema, gout, to any skin condition! The term: "Healthy Tan" is naturally arrested. Being tanned is now associated with being in pink.
Then, in 1923, Golden Tan suddenly became a deathbed for. That year, after sailing from Paris to Cannes, Coco Chanel emerged from the yacht of the Duke of Wellington with a ton of gold. He reported that he accidentally received too much sun, but the media didn't care. To the world, the first fashion women have just announced the latest fashion statement. And the western world is followed by passion and spirit.
Sun tanning is now a rage. The women's magazine featured women in bright sunshine. Tanning oil has started to appear to help people grow themselves faster! Swimwear began to decline in coverage, gathering in Bikini, which became widespread in the 1950s. Tan has more demand.
By the 1960s, a link between skin cancer and UV exposure was made. Self-tanning products appear in an attempt to achieve a layered look without the danger of UV exposure. Unfortunately, these products, which generally contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA), give consumers a non-native color of orange, and therefore are not very popular. Regardless of cancer, good looks are more important!
By the 1970s and 80s, people were getting busier. Thus, tanning salons are created to feed the never-ending desire to maintain bronzed skin even with tight schedules. People can tan either day or night now. The tanning business was a billion-dollar industry in the 1990s, and it continues to grow today.
Thankfully, not all common sense is lost. Over the past decade, anti-tanning campaigns and raising awareness of skin cancer have been a bit of an issue. Fair skin is becoming more and more popular, with A-list celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett proving that you don't need fake tons to shine on the red carpet. Internal tanning providers have taken the lead, and are now working towards more reasonable, responsible and modest tapping.
Like a long time ago, Golden Tan might come out. Who knows? One hundred years from now, people may look back, and find that the desire seems bronzed and cranky in a peculiar twentieth century.
